Before You Go to the Meade Ranges
Access to the Fort Meade ranges is controlled. MRPC members may use the ranges only during scheduled club events while under the supervision of an authorized Range Safety Officer.
Advance registration is required each time you plan to shoot at the Meade Ranges.
You must first complete the required MRPC Range Orientation and Range Safety Briefing. Contact Chief Range Officer Gary Greco at

to arrange your briefing.
1. Register for the Event

no later than 12:00 PM on the Wednesday immediately before the scheduled event.
Place the range/event date in the email subject line and provide:
- Full Name
- Date of Birth
- Place of Birth
This must be completed each time you plan to attend and shoot at the Meade Ranges.
2. Check the Event & Gate Time
Before leaving home, check the MRPC calendar for the current event and scheduled gate time.
3. Getting to the Range Gate
The authorized MRPC/MR&GC access point is the gate on Range Road at Riverscape Road, off Piney Orchard Parkway in Odenton, Maryland.

Do not navigate simply to “Fort Meade Ranges.” The access road is narrow and one lane in places. Use caution while approaching the gate.
4. Entering the Range Complex
The gate is opened by Range Command at the scheduled gate time and remains open only briefly. Be in line and prepared before the scheduled time.
The vehicle operator must have a valid driver’s license readily available. Turn off your vehicle sound system as you approach the checkpoint and follow all instructions from DoD personnel.
5. After Entering
Keep firearms and ammunition secured in your vehicle until instructed otherwise by the Range Officer.
Range Officers will report to Range Command to check out the ranges assigned for MRPC activities. Participants should proceed to the central gravel parking area opposite Ranges 4 and 5 and wait for instructions.
Do not begin range activities until the assigned Range Officer has established the range, displayed the red safety flag and given instructions.
6. Departure
Both entry and departure must be coordinated with Range Command. Participants should expect to remain for the duration of their group’s activity, generally several hours.
Departure is controlled by the Range Officer and Range Command. Do not plan on leaving independently during the scheduled range period.
What to Bring
- Firearms and ammunition appropriate for the scheduled activity
- Eye and hearing protection
- Targets and target stands when appropriate
- Water, food and supplies needed for several hours outdoors
- Clothing appropriate for the weather and range environment
MRPC does not rent firearms, sell ammunition, or sell food or beverages at the Meade Ranges.
Range activities may continue during rain. Always check the current calendar and instructions from the Range Officer before traveling.
Magnum ammunition and .50-caliber rifles are not permitted. The exception is .50-caliber muzzleloading firearms when authorized. Requirements may change, so always confirm current restrictions with the assigned Range Safety Officer.
